By-pass channel and water locks design
By-pass channel and water locks design
Samenvatting
This report presents the By-pass Channel and Water Locks Design located on the city of Kampen, north of The Netherlands. This new created channel will exist with the purpose of protecting the city from winter flooding on downtown.
The By-Pass design is a very complex work having lots of revision points and many details to be considerate. The inlet structure represents a good example of how to solve a problem of water management.
Objectives:
In order to generate the project the next items were analyzed:
-a good selection of a gate based on past experience and research
-upstream and downstream channel cross section design
-security critical depths and energy losses
-channel transition losses
-initial by-pass general top view design
-by-pass structure distribution and cross section design
-locks side design profiles
-roadway bridge
-lifting towers distribution
-scour and sediment transport
-solution of the best channel revetments
-foundation analysis and design
The procedure and organization of this project will be based first in theoretical definitions, followed by the calculations and ending with a reasonable solution and final design. Comments will resume important points obtained while working on the project.
Special Focus:
A deeper focus is analyzed in the next items:
-Hydraulic Discharge Analysis
-Research and Comparison
-Design and Transition Calculations
-Design Needs
-Foundation Analysis
There are plans, drawings and sketches included in this report to have a detailed vision about this water problem. A final animation will be shown in order to create a good idea of the 3D explanation. Analysis, research and assumptions taken into account are presented in this preview.
