Samenvatting

Within the organization, Pro Persona, department Wolfheze Winkler Clinic, Mrs. L. peters, HBO student Psychomotoric therapy (PMT), has developed a ‘PMT Korsakov observation method’ two years ago. It was developed with the intention to make the diagnosis of Korsakov within the PMT practice possible. However, there is little information about the reliability of this observation method. Therefore the following question was raised: To what extent is the ‘PMT observation method Korsakov’ reliable, compared to the intra- and inter rater reliability and therefore the validity to use as a diagnostic instrument in practice?
In order to research this question the observation results from eight clients with the presumption of Korsakov were collected using the ‘PMT observation method’. To determine the intra-rater reliability the PMT observation results of one researcher were compared. Further the PMT observation results of three researchers were compared to ascertain the inter rater reliability. To determine the validity of the observation method, the observation results are compared to the golden rule. The golden rule are the results of the neurologist and the diagnosis of the psychiatrist.
The results showed that the observation method Korsakov PMT contains low intra-rater reliability, high inter rater reliability and moderate to good validity.
The conclusion is that the intra-rater reliability and the validity require additional attention before the ‘PMT observation method Korsakov’ can be used as a diagnostic instrument in practice.
