Summary Background and purpose: Recent investigation showed that CIMT and mCIMTare possibly good ways to treat a stroke patient. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of CIMT and mCIMTwith the effects of conventional treatment.
Methods: Six articles from the Pedro and Medline databases are analysed to answer the question. The quality of these articles is determined using the Pedro score list.
Results:Both CIMT and mCIMT in the sub-acute phase after a stroke have a positive effect on the arm and hand function of stroke patients. There is still no clarity about the training intensity per day. In the chronic phase, both CIMT and mCIMT have also found to beeffective ways to facilitate the hand function of stroke patients. However, more effect is achieved if the therapy is started 3 to9 months post stroke.
Conclusion: CIMT or mCIMTin the sub-acute en post-acute or chronic phase after a stroke has more benefits compared to other, conventional therapies.
