Samenvatting

The main objective of this report is to document research conducted at The Hague University of Applied Sciences on how Brazilian deforestation policies have contributed to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal # 13. This report is written due to the numerous discussions regarding the scientific evidence for the link between climate change and deforestation of the world’s rainforests. Deforestation of the Brazilian Amazon rainforest is one of the major causes to climate change and one of the biggest threats to development. The United Nations has stated that to combat and reduce impacts of climate change, it is important to promote sustainable development. The Sustainable Development Goal # 13 is one out of 17 goals initiated by the United Nation Development Programme as a part of the 2030 Agenda for battling the effects of climate change through sustainable development. The central goal of this research is to determine to what extent the Brazilian deforestation policies have contributed to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal # 13.
