Samenvatting

This paper is an analysis of how Non - Governmental Development Organisations (NGDO) lobby the European Parliament. NGDOs employ various lobbying tools to exert influence during the legislative process at the European Parliament.

In order to assess how these organisations lobby, it needs to be established first what an NGDO exactly is. After, the legislative process at the European Parliament is explained. There are various procedures which need to be clarified in order to better understand how NGDOs lobby. The third chapter lists the lobbying tools used by NGDOs as well as possible advantages and disadvantages for these tools. In the fourth chapter a case study is carried out to examine how effective some of the lobbying tools described in chapter 3 are in practice.
