Samenvatting

Water Authority Zuiderzeeland measures many parameters for the WFD objectives, including electrical conductivity (EC). The EC is measured using various measuring devices, through field measurements (manual), telemetry and since 2019 with relatively inexpensive Internet of Things (IoT)sensors. It is not known whether the three different types of measuring devices measure the same EC. Furthermore, during the field measurements, samples are taken for chemical analysis. This looks at several important substances for Flevoland's water quality, including a number of EC-determining substances: chloride, sulphate, nitrate, bicarbonate and phosphate. It would be beneficial to be able to predict a concentration of these substances from a distance based on an EC readout. This study investigated which substances have a good correlation with the EC at the measuring location. In this way, the concentration of these substances can be determined on the basis of an EC value in the future and, consequently, the water quality can be monitored remotely. The IoT sensors can be used for this purpose if they measure the correct EC. The data sets of Water Authority Zuiderzeeland were used for this study. The location on which this research focused is the Ankertocht, located in the Noordoostpolder.
